Duties Between Board Meetings

Term

A one-year term consists of four to six one-hour board meetings. Terms may be renewed annually with the consent of the board member and the editor-in-chief. Remote attendance will remain an option for all. Board members should strive to participate in all meetings. Board members with time conflicts should provide input asynchronously before the meetings. Meeting minutes and/or recorded meetings will be sent to all editors and available upon request.

Selection Criteria

Board members have experience and expertise that align with the mission of the Medical Home Portal.

Best Practices

Decision-Making

Voting will be decided by the present majority if consensus is not easily reached. The Editor-in-Chief will determine the outcome of split votes.

Expert Review

The Portal utilizes a non-blinded expert review process to solicit feedback on proposed publications. Members of the editorial board may provide expert reviews.

Conflicts of Interest

All authors and reviewers confirm or deny conflicts of interest before publication. This information is recorded in the link from the author credits. When making final decisions about manuscripts, editors recuse themselves from editorial decisions if they have relationships or activities that pose potential conflicts related to articles under consideration. Editorial staff must not use information gained through working with manuscripts for private gain. Board members regularly update their disclosure statements and notify the managing editor and editor-in-chief of any potential conflicts of interest.

Confidentiality

Editorial board members must not share information about submissions, including whether they have been received and are under review, their content and status in the review process, criticism by reviewers, and their ultimate fate, to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and other editorial board members. Editors may provide confirmation of submitted materials to supervisors of the authors and reviewers if requested.

Integrity

Editorial decisions should be based on the relevance of a submission to the Medical Home Portal, the material’s quality, and contribution to the Portal’s mission. Those decisions should not be influenced by commercial interests, personal relationships or agendas, or findings that are negative or credibly challenge accepted wisdom.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Medical Home Portal seeks to engage a broad and diverse array of authors, reviewers, editorial staff, editorial board members, and readers. Notify the Managing Editor or Editor-in-Chief if there are concerns about equity, harassment, or inappropriate conduct.
