Included are counseling programs for widows and widowers, children who have lost a parent, parents who have lost a child and people who are in other similar situations. (AIRS RP-1400.8000-100)

Services Provided:

Through the Mariposa Program, UNM Children's Hospital provides in-home hospice care for children with a terminal illness, as well as emotional support for families. The pediatric hospice specialists and trained volunteers provide medical care, respite services and grief counseling support for families throughout New Mexico. Services include home visits from nurses; home health aides and social workers; 24/7 medical care; medical equipment and supplies; pediatric pain management; annual memorial service for Mariposa Program families; grief and bereavement counseling; sibling support; connection to community resources; and volunteer respite care and companionship.

Services Provided:

The Children's Grief Center provides a secure space to discuss experiences and feelings by offering free support groups for bereaved children. CGC serves children aged 5 to 25, as well as teenagers, young adults, and adult caregivers. Groups are meant to provide children with the chance to discuss, draw, write, play, act out their grief, learn coping skills to learn how to keep the memory of their loved one alive with others who are going through similar experiences.
