Programs that provide transportation for medical appointments, trips from and between hospitals, to nursing homes or other special-care centers or for other non-emergency medical needs for individuals who, because of financial problems or their physical condition, are unable to use other means of local transportation. NEMT service providers are able to transport riders who require a wheelchair lift equipped vehicle with appropriate protective restraints or a van that is designed for gurney/stretcher transportation, or has other types of features to meet their safety needs. Below are some examples of typical passenger requirements. These are not all inclusive and may vary by organization.

  • Being medically stable
  • Not requiring medical care during the flight
  • Ability to enter and exit a small aircraft with minimal assistance (in some cases this means climbing steps or onto the wing of an aircraft)
  • Ability to sit upright in a seat with seat belt fastened for the entire flight
  • A verifiable medical need or other compelling need for travel. Most VPOs will request a medical release from the patient’s physician.
  • A financial need or other compelling circumstances. This will be determined by the organization, often on a case-by-case basis.

We connect patients with charitable aviation organizations that will fly you to your doctor for free. Flights are provided by qualified charitable aviation organizations through volunteer pilots flying private aircraft, or through commercial airline partners. Eligibility:

Patient under the age of 18 can be accompanied by up to 2 parents or legal guardians, patient age 18 may be accompanied by 1 medically-necessary caregiver, be able to board and exit the aircraft and sit upright in seat or wheelchair, not on any life support systems, meet airline approved portable oxygen criteria, going to or from recognized treatment center, have self arranged ground transportation, self pay baggage fees, and meet income guidelines. Qualifying applicants may receive assistance as often as needed.

Services Provided: Provides incidental medical expense assistance through free flights for children who are in need of life-changing medical care that is not found in the local communities. Adults, families, or caregivers may accompany child.COVID-19 UPDATE: Following all CDC and state guidelines.
