Description: Programs that help individuals with mental, physical or developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders, chronic health conditions or other problems develop new interests, sharpen their social skills and gain a sense of self-achievement through a structured series of leisure-time activities which may include arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, sports, games, social gatherings and community outings. Therapy goals may differ for different populations, e.g., improved hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills may be desired outcomes for people with physical disabilities. (AIRS RP-8000.7400)

Services Provided: The Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization responsible for philanthropic giving to enhance the lives of special needs children and their families at Carrie Tingley Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico.Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation offers Arts & Athletics Beyond Limits program AABL including creative exploration in the Keshet Dance Company, Cloud Dancers therapeutic Horsemanship program, power wheelchair soccer and Zia Hot Shots wheelchair basketball team. The AABL Sports Programs are designed for young athletes or potential athletes who have an orthopedic, neurological or neuromuscular impairment such as, but not limited to, SCI, muscular dystrophy, osteogenesis imperfecta, amputation, TBI, rheumatoid arthritis, spina bifida or cerebral palsy. The AABL Program has been in existence since 1998. Scholarships are available. The program consists of:-Muthu Barry Junior Wheelchair Summer Sports Day Camp: Campers ages 8-18 receive structured instruction in archery, tennis, track and field, martial arts, indoor soccer, table-tennis, softball, hand-cycling and weight-lifting. Services Provided: Professional dancers conduct youth and adult classes and workshops for individuals with varying levels of physical disabilities and dance experience. Keshet pairs dancers with physical disabilities with able-bodied dancers, which often include siblings, parents and peers, to create professional-quality dance works. As a result, dancers and audience members share in the idea of unlimited possibilities through the experience of dance. $14 per class, or $60 per 5 class card, or $160 per session card 16 classes. Services Provided: Dance it Up is a community service of Sandia Presbyterian Church. We offer a dance a month usually on the third Friday of the month for ten months out of the year for the mentally disabled in our community regardless of religious affiliate. Two of the monthly dances have live music--the Spring Ball and Winter Ball. The other eight have a disc jockey. Attendees are age 18 and older. There is a $2 fee for eight dances and $4 fee for the balls to defray food and music costs. No charge for caregivers. Light snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are provided. Dances are from 7pm to 9pm. Function is held in the Family Life Center at the church. Typical attendance is around 200 people with a third of those being caregivers.

Services Provided: The Arc of New Mexico provides information about developmental disabilities services in New Mexico, including the DD waiver and Mi Via. The Arc can direct individuals to services and programs for adults, families and children, benefits, need for and alternatives to guardianship, trusts and life time future planning, self-advocacy, self-direction and self-determination. The Arc of New Mexico provides guardianship services to persons with developmental disabilities who live in New Mexico and have no family or friends to provide support. A staff of professional guardians is available to assist individuals with developmental disabilities with decision-making.The Arc of New Mexico provides advocacy, information about a wide range of topics related to developmental disabilities. An advocate can be reached by phone or e-mail to answer questions or refer callers to other programs, services and resources that may better meet their needs. Services Provided: The Clovis Fire Department CFD serves the citizens of Clovis and Curry County and was created in 1909 by a Municipal Ordinance. Employs 71-full-time employees, with 63 of them working three 24 hours shifts. The City is now protected by one main station and 4 substations, which are strategically located and house 5 engine companies, a rescue squad, 2 tanker units and 7 ambulances, two which provide advanced care.

Included in the resource base are seventeen parks or recreational areas encompassing 3,400 acres of which 600 acres are developed for recreational use. Our program is family-centered, meaning we work with parents and caregivers to help your child do everything he or she should be doing at his or her age.Our professionals at MECA Therapies Early Childhood Program offer knowledge and support to families who have children with or at risk for developmental delays. Services Provided: The Bonnie Dallas Senior Center offers a multi-dimensional program with a wide variety of leisure activities. The minimum age to participate in these activities is 50. The activities range from recreational to educational, active to passive, individual to group. Services Provided: The Las Cruces Fire Department proudly serves New Mexico's second largest city with over 115 professional Firefighter/EMT's. The department responds to over 12,500 calls for assistance annually with six engine companies, two truck companies, a battalion chief, and several support vehicles. In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical services, we also offer special response teams that provide technical rescue services, hazardous materials response and aircraft rescue firefighting.

Services Provided: The Branigan Cultural Center has as its focus the history and culture of the region. Built during the Great Depression to serve as the Citys main library, this building was rededicated as a city cultural facility in 1981.The Branigan Cultural Center is comprised of several small galleries and the larger Shannon Room, which is a temporary exhibition gallery and performance hall. Permanent and changing exhibitions and educational programming provide insight into the regions interesting past and lively present.

Services Provided: The Robert Munson Senior Center, administered by the City of Las Cruces, is just one of the four centers available to Las Cruces residents who are 50 years old and over also to their younger spouses.
