Services Provided: The Jemez Vocational Rehabilitation (JVR) Program is a program that helps with the career development of Native Americans with disabilities. The purpose of the JVR program is to help tribal members with disabilities to achieve meaningful employment outcomes. This is different for each consumer and is based on the individual's job history, disability, and future goals. Consumers can be helped in a variety of ways, and the assistance given to a VR consumer depends on their vocational goals and on what is written in his/her Individual Plan for Employment IPE. If a consumer is unsure of what type of employment they are interested in, or if they are not sure if they do or do not have a disability, the Jemez Vocational Rehabilitation Program can assist them by having an assessment done to determine if a disability is present, what type of career would best fit their skills, personality, and goals, and even what physical limitations are present that might need worksite accommodations. The assessments include vocational, physical capacity and occupational assessments, and can help the consumer to find a career that will work with his/her disability. This process helps the consumer focus on a plan that will allow him/her to be self-sufficient and independent. In addition, the JVR program can also place a consumer in a trial work experience to help him/her find the type of work or career that fits him/her best.Because everyone's vocational goals are different, there are a lot of ways that the tribal vocational rehabilitation program can assist consumers. The Jemez Vocational Rehabilitation Program can help consumers develop resumes and fill out job applications, provide transportation to purchase supplies and materials for his/her self-employment, register for school, and assist financially as long as the expense directly relates to his/her employment. The JVR Program works directly with employers, vocational schools, colleges, on-the-job training, job coaching, job placements, self-employment training and with advocacy programs for people with disabilities to ensure that each consumer is able to find and/or keep a job that meets his/her needs. These services can help Native Americans with disabilities to find and prepare for a new job, go to school, start their own business, and become independent and financially stable. Assistance is given to current consumers only and at no time can the JVR assist a person who is not found eligible for our services.
