Programs that provide a therapeutic environment for individuals who have acute or chronic mental or emotional disturbances, who require more intensive treatment than that offered in typical outpatient treatment but will benefit from maintaining some portion of their daily routine, such as school or employment activities. Intensive outpatient programs usually meet for multiple hours several days per week.
