Services Provided: The Center assures that the policies, laws and practices intended to address the problems of those living in poverty are well designed and are implemented legally, fairly and effectively. Currently, the Center's primary program efforts include: 1 protecting the eligibility and benefits of Medicaid, 2 expanding participation in the Food Stamp program, 3 protecting the benefits and eligibility of the New Mexico Works program, 4 advocating for systemic improvements in the administration of public benefits programs, 5 increasing indigent access to health care services, 6 improving homeless New Mexicans access to benefits and to civil legal services, 7 working to reform the indigent defense system in New Mexico, and 8 improving the state system of legal services for the poor.
