Residents of New Mexico, anyone under age 21 is eligible if diagnosed with chronic medical conditions or disabilities that require surgical or medical treatment or limit activities. For CMS payment/coverage, there are also financial guidelines.

Adults are eligible if they have genetic/metabolic or cystic fibrosis who are eligible for lifelong services.

CMS offers medical services through multidisciplinary pediatric specialty clinics, private providers and public agencies. Diagnostic medical services, information and referral, case management and pre-school developmental evaluations are also available, regardless of income.

Service Include:

• Medical Management- may include payment for diagnostic services, hospitalizations, physician’s services, and some therapies.
• Multidisciplinary Pediatric Specialty Clinics- including asthma, cleft palate, genetic, metabolic, nephrology, neurology, and endocrinology clinics
• Care Coordination
• Transition Planning for Youth with Special Health Care needs
  Newborn Genetic Screening and Follow-up & Newborn Hearing Screening and Follow-up

Provides routine appointments, preventative care, and urgent and emergency care services and pediatric specialists care for children.

Provides diagnosis and treatment of disorders in the brain and nervous system. 

Conditions Treated:

• Dizziness and vertigo
• Developmental delays
• Congenital birth defects
• Epilepsy and seizure disorders
• Headaches and migraines
• Movement disorders, including essential tremor, dystonia and cerebral palsy
• Muscle weakness and/or muscle loss, including muscular dystrophy
• Multiple sclerosis
• Tourette’s syndrome and tics

If a child struggles with epilepsy, muscle disorders or a nerve condition, visit UNM Children's Hospital. Their clinics are equipped with the technology to diagnose and treat children's brain, spine and nerve disorders. The child's care team will partner with the family to make an effective treatment plan and improve the family's quality of life. UNM Children's neurological care team offers treatment options for neurological conditions, including diagnostic imaging and brain activity equipment; genetic testing for Huntington’s disease, muscular dystrophy and other congenital conditions; deep brain stimulation for abnormal movements; ketogenic diet for epilepsy; medications; brain surgery performed by fellowship-trained pediatric neurosurgeons for movement and speech; and vagal nerve stimulation therapy for epilepsy.
