Bosque Farms, NM

Organization Name: BEEHIVE HOMES OF NEW MEXICO
Address: 1935 Bosque Farms Boulevard
Bosque Farms, NM 87068
Phone: 505-553-5552
Services Provided: Henry and Kathy Holmes, are excited and look forward to working with the elderly of Valencia County in their BeeHive Home in Bosque Farms. They love the family concept of BeeHive Homes and the personal love and care that the residents receive.Henry has worked as a nurse, manager in the emergency room, as a trauma specialist and in behavioral health for over 20 years, as well as operating several businesses with his wife Kathy. Kathy has worked with and for the young and young at heart, for over 30 years, in their church and while operating retail and wholesale businesses in New Mexico. She provided retail therapy with beautiful plants and decor for over 27 years.Ever since the last of their five children moved away, Henry and Kathy have had a desire to work together as a team again, but this time they wanted to combine their education, experience, dreams, passions, and talents to give a beautiful, safe and loving home to the aging residents in and around Valencia County. They hope their children, grandchildren and the community will enjoy being involved in the events and activities at their BeeHive Assisted Living Home. They look forward to working with the elderly in the intimate setting that BeeHive Homes provides as they already oversee all aspects of the building process. Dont be surprised to see Henry cooking breakfast, because he loves cooking especially breakfast!, planting flowers with the residents, or mowing the lawns all in the same day. Kathy looks forward to providing care and attention to each resident by loving, listening, making crafts, gardening, sewing, decorating and doing whatever it takes to make their house a home!Henry and Kathy made Bosque Farms their home in 2007 and truly love the area and the people who live there. They are united in their goal to build an assisted living community so they can work together while serving their neighbors. They look forward to working as a team to provide a comfortable, safe haven to assist the elderly in Bosque Farms, opening Fall 2015.A Home for My MotherI was recently asked why I built a greenhouse at our BeeHive Homes of Bosque Farms assisted living home. The answer, although simple, has a story to it that I would like to share with you.A few years after my father retired, my parents moved to New Mexico to help out with our new greenhouse business. We were excited to have their companionship in New Mexico, which also allowed us to keep an eye on them and make sure they were safe. Over the years I watched my mother don a scarf and, dressed in one of her favorite aprons, she would go out to the greenhouses to work, followed closely by my father. Day after day they would go to work. I talked to them about taking time off and enjoying their stay in New Mexico. That is when I realized that my mother loved to go into the greenhouse. She loved the colors, the smells, and the warmth of the greenhouse. She wasnt fast, but she loved using her hands in the soil. Many days I would walk out to find my mother and father working in the greenhouse. At times though, their work consisted of just sitting there holding hands and smilingI realized they really did enjoy being there. So after they moved back to Utah, I gave them a small greenhouse for their backyard. I can still picture my mom wearing an apron and a scarf over her ears sitting in the greenhouse on cold winter days, enjoying the warmth, sunshine, and security of her own little garden spotmost of the time with my dad at her side.So it wasnt difficult to decide to build a greenhouse for the moms and dads that come to our home. Although both of my parents have passed on, Kathy and I are building our BeeHive Home as if Mom and Dad were coming to stay for a while.

Edgewood, NM

Organization Name: BEEHIVE HOMES OF NEW MEXICO
Address: 102 Quail Trail
Edgewood, NM 87015
Phone: 505-591-7002
Services Provided: BeeHive Homes Of Edgewoods Robin Markley, founder of the Green BeeHive in Edgewood, New Mexico, has been working with the elderly since she began volunteering in nursing homes in 1975. Robin has been an active caregiver to the elderly over the years and was also employed with BeeHive Homes as a manager. She fell in love with the small size design of BeeHive Homes and the personal love and care that the residents receive.Mrs. Markley has cared for her father since 1988, and when he could no longer stay at her home, the only place she felt safe for him to reside was in a BeeHive Home. After four years of working for BeeHive, Robin decided to build and run her own BeeHive Home. With her husband Pat Markley and her partner, Gerald Hamilton, the dream has come true. She now can provide quality care for the elderly on a day-to-day basis. When asked about her job she says, Its not work when you do something you love. What better gift can I give than a safe, loving place for our aging residents.Gerald Hamilton has been working with the elderly for over 30 years since starting as a dietary aide in a nursing home while still in high school. Following a 20-year career as a nursing home administrator, he opened his first BeeHive Home in 2006 in Albuquerque, adding a second home two years later. He loves working with the elderly in the intimate setting that BeeHive Homes provide and enjoys being involved in all aspects of the operation. Dont be surprised to see Gerald cooking breakfast, singing with the residents, and/or fixing a broken toilet all in the same day. BeeHive Homes of Edgewood is a green facility: Green assisted living not only helps take care of the needs of the elderly but also provides them with a better living environment enriched with green options.
