Programs that provide a variety of minor home repair services for homeowners who qualify. Specific services vary by organization. (AIRS PH-3300.2750) Programs that provide assistance in the form of labor and supplies for people with disabilities who need to install ramps, elevators, stair glides or lifts; widen doorways; install grab bars in showers and bathrooms; lower kitchen and other cabinets; or make other modifications in their homes or apartments to make them accessible. The Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation provides adaptive programs, resources, and assistance that allow children with special needs to discover their independence and creativity despite their physical limitations, as well as financial support to the UNM Carrie Tingley Hospital for equipment and research. The UNM Carrie Tingley Hospital is the state’s only pediatric rehabilitative hospital and today serves thousands of children each year with many types of illnesses and disabling conditions. The Foundation has several programs outside the purview of the hospital, including the Patient and Family Assistance program that provides wheelchair ramps, bathroom remodeling, and rent and utility assistance; the Quality of Life program that offers recreational activities for children with physical disabilities, such as kayaking, sports, and Keshet dance; and the children's Camp Adventure program where campers enjoy sports, art, music, and games.

The Home Rehabilitation Program offers two options to assist Las Cruces families with low and moderate-incomes. Owner-occupant families may secure a zero-interest loan or grant to fund needed home improvements that address health and safety issues. The Mobile Home Ramp Installation Program enables low and moderate-income residents who live in a mobile home and have a qualifying disability to have an ADA-approved wheelchair ramp constructed at their home.

This is a service that build wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people who can’t afford to buy one. They are a donation-funded, all-volunteer group. Contacting a healthcare professional or caseworker is the first step, by first maintaining a referral. Any healthcare professional or caseworker that has a client who needs a ramp, complete the referral form on the Website. Do not include any protected medical information.

The ILRC provides services for individuals with disabilities aimed at independence and serves Bernalillo, Cibola, De Baca, Guadalupe, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia counties. Services include Technical Services Program, Technical Assistance Program, Education and Awareness, Attendant Services Program, Nursing Home Transition, and Independent Living Services. Physical sites include the Albuquerque Main, East Mountain, Alamogordo, and Socorro offices.

The Community Benefit provides long-term services and supports to members who need assistance to live independently in the community rather than in a long-term care facility. The program offers many services from personal care assistance with daily activities such as bathing and dressing to employment supports and modifications to make your home safer and more accessible. The services available are based on individual needs. Eligibility:

Low income individuals in need who are referred by professionals.

Services Provided:

Assists low income individuals with a range of needs including mobility equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, vehicle modifications such as hand controls and lifts), ramps and minor house modifications for accessibility, medical equipment (not including medical bills or back bills), and prostheses. Applications accepted from referring professionals only (social worker, case manager, teacher, school counselor, minister, etc.).
