Disabilities may be temporary or permanent, may be present at birth or occur at any point in a person's lifetime, and can be of different levels of severity.

The Arc of New Mexico Sexual Assault Program (SAP) exists to support people with intellectual/developmental disabilities who have experienced sexual assault to access law enforcement and court systems and to receive medical, mental health, and disability-related natural (family/friends) and paid supports that are both trauma- and disability-informed. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are more than twice as likely to face violent victimization than their peers without disabilities.

The UNM Center for Development and Disability (UNM CDD) serves children and adults with developmental, intellectual or physical disabilities throughout New Mexico. Programs include Autism Programs, Clinical Evaluations Programs, Early Childhood Programs, and other disability programs. The CDD also houses the Mi Via and Supports Waiver Consultant programs, the UNM CDD Information Network that provides resources to the community, and the Information Network Library. Services include home visits, screenings, evaluations, early intervention services, case management services and trainings.

New Mexico’s new Supports Waiver (SW) is a Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver that is an option for individuals who are on the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver Wait List. Supports Waiver services are intended to complement unpaid supports that are provided to individuals by family and others. A Supports Waiver participant will have the choice to access Support Waiver services through Agency Based Services or a Participant Directed Services. Services include assistive technology, behavior support consultation, customized community supports, employment supports, EMOD, personal care, non-medical transportation, respite, and vehicle modifications.

Mi Via is designed to assist an individual in managing their own services and supports to live their best life. Mi Via is about choosing self-direction over their home and community-based services, support, and goods within the approved plan and budget. The Mi Via Waiver program provides an array of living supports, community membership supports, health and wellness supports and other related supports and goods. Services include Consultant/Support guide services, personal plan facilitation, community membership supports, living supports, health and wellness services, other related goods and supports, and services for children.

The Medically Fragile Waiver Program is a Home and Community Based Medicaid Waiver. The program is designed to serve children and adults with case management, home health care, respite care, private duty nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, behavior support consultation, nutritional counseling and specialized medical equipment and supplies. The Medically Fragile Waiver program is intended for individuals who have been determined to have both a medically fragile condition and a developmental disability to live in their homes.

New Mexico’s traditional DD Waiver Program is a person-centered, community-oriented approach to deliver supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The DD Waiver program provides an array of residential, in home, community, employment, therapeutic and family support services for children and adults. DD Waiver services are intended to add to, not replace, other supports a person has like medical services through New Mexico’s Medicaid State Plan, natural supports and other community services.

Since 2001, ABWL has served the Greater Albuquerque Community as a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. The aim is to collaborate with others to provide the essential assistance for persons with developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives, including employment, education, leisure, and relationships. ABWL also educates others about the challenges that persons with developmental impairments experience. ABWL provides community outreach information such as events and fundraisers.

Services Provided:

The Transdisciplinary Evaluation & Support Clinic (TEASC) provides free in-home services for New Mexicans ages 18 and older with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Clients or their families can request a TEASC consultation. Providers or advocates can also request a referral. Specialized TEASC providers can do in-home visits or see the patient in a UNM Family Practice or community clinic. TEASC offers a range of medical and mental health care services, as well as help with support system needs. They are funded by the New Mexico Department of Health/Developmental Disabilities Supports Division.

Alta Mira provides a range of services to individuals who have been diagnosed with a disability, or who may be experiencing conditions which could cause a significant delay in their development. Families receive help and support to assist them in making sure their loved one reaches their full potential. Alta Mira provides both Early Childhood Services (for children age zero-three) and Family Support Services. Family Support Services include respite, family living, in-home living supports, community supports, Mi Via Waiver and exceptional family member program.

A STABLE Account is an investment account available to eligible individuals with disabilities. STABLE Accounts allow individuals with disabilities to save and invest money without losing eligibility for certain public benefits programs, like Medicaid or SSI. Earnings in STABLE Accounts are not subject to federal income tax, so long as the account holder utilizes resources for “Qualified Disability Expenses.” STABLE Accounts are investment accounts, similar to 529 college savings accounts or 401(k) retirement accounts. A STABLE Account also allows the account holder to grow money and save long-term for disability expenses. ABLE New Mexico is New Mexico's ABLE plan. Although STABLE Accounts are available nationwide, ABLE New Mexico is only available to New Mexico residents.
